Hey, everybody! It’s me! It’s Joe! And I have more videos! As always, take a moment or twenty and give one of these a shot. They’re probably fun and they definitely have way too much of me in them. It’s a no lose situation!
(Your mom asked me to remind you to click the little squares to expand the videos. She worries.)
Talking to Ming Doyle and Erica Henderson was a lot of fun. Hell, a lot of these interviews are a lot of fun. It’s a lot of a lot. Still, they were particularly fun. Rusty actually made a list of folks he wanted to try and interview and Ming Doyle was very high on that list! Having Mike Thomas bring them around was a nice surprise! As with many of these chats, I really enjoyed the answers to their Mysterious Questions (from the Mysterious Bag).
At some point on Sunday, the interviews began multiplying on their own as people we had talked to began telling other people to come by. Patch was one of those who was directed to us and I have to say I’m really grateful he was. He was supporting a book about his battle with cancer and how he used art to help fight his way through. He was such a nice guy, it turned subject matter that could easily be super serious into something very easygoing.
The gentleman who I believe recommended us to Patch was one James Point Du Jour. I believe Mike Thomas also set us up with him and it was a great match. He got one of my favorite Mysterious Questions and ran with it like a champ. There are a few times during the interviews where everything seemed to click as if the people were hand-picked to jive with Rusty and I and his answer there was one of them.
As a (very) long time attendee of SPX, I know the importance of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund which means I also know the important work that Charles Brownstein does for it. It was really nice of him to come sit with us and talk about the different work the Fund does and go into a bit of the relationship between the show and the CBLDF.
Rusty and I have known John Green since 1997 (I believe!) when SPX moved, for one year, to a hotel in Silver Spring. Rusty was a fan of the comic John was doing with Dave Roman at the time, Quicken Forbidden, so we made sure to stop by. It was really cool to meet two guys who were very much like us in a lot of ways (albeit much more talented in comic-y ways). It was really cool to sit down with John and talk about his new book and a little about his history with SPX.
